The Mogadishu bombing this weekend is one of the deadliest attacks in sub-Saharan Africa, larger than the Garissa University attack in Kenya in 2015 and the U.S. Embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998. Picture: Reuters

Mogadishu attacks abhorrent

The MJC (SA) condemns in the strongest of terms the cowardly and barbaric act of terrorism that killed 276 people and injured more than 300 in the Somali capital, Mogadishu over the weekend.

The death toll is set to rise.

“It is with shock and sadness that we witness the devastation wreaked upon the people of Somalia over the weekend,” MJC Secretary-General, Shaykh Isgaak Taliep said. “We offer our condolences to the families of those killed in this senseless attack. Our prayers go out to the deceased. May God grant them Paradise and a speedy recovery for those wounded.”
