The Muslim Judicial Council Cemetery Management Committee convened to finalize amendments to the City of Cape Town’s Undertakers By-Law 2010.
A decision was also taken to organize a full audit of all Muslim private cemeteries in order to establish the number of persons buried on the site as well as the burial space available. This information is needed in order to determine the amount of Muslim burial space required for the next 15 years.
Currently, a large number of Muslims are burrying at selected Muslim cemeteries only. Therefore an appeal has been made by the cemetery boards to bury at private cemeteries or municipal cemeteries closest to the home of the deceased.
The closing date for submitting all amendments to the By-Law has been extended to the 31st of July 2010.
