MJC Pays Respects to the Family of the late Moulana Sharief Hendricks


MJC delegation lead by Sheikh M.I Taliep paid their respects to the family of slain Moulana Sharief Hendricks of Beacon Valley. Moulana Hendricks was gunned down while counseling members of the community.  

Sheikh Ihsaan spoke at length about the challenges faced by the ulema. He also said that this is an unprecedented incident in history of Muslims in South Africa. This tragic incident is reflective of the many challenges which the community is faced with.
MJC will be conducting a discussion forum on the role of the ulema in an ever changing behavioral pattern of society.

MJC Delegation Heads for Turkey 28 July 2010


An MJC Delegation led by Moulana Ihsaan Hendricks left for Turkey on the 28 June 2010 to attend the annual International Union of Muslim Scholars conference.

The major objective is to persistently strive to preserve the Islamic identity of the Muslim Ummah. The Union uses all available legal means to stand up to internal and external destructive trends and promote the Muslims’ awareness of their role and noble goals. This will be done through spreading straightforward Islamic thought and dispersing knowledge through facilitating the way for every Muslim to seek a sufficient level of Shari`ah-based knowledge.

The delegation includes Sheikh Ebrahim Gabriels, Sheikh Abdul Gamied Gabier, Moulana Yusuf Karaan and M.I Taliep


MJC build up towards Meraj July 2010


The MJC appeals to all Ulema to concentrate and reflect on a the virtues of the Meraj and the significance of Masjidul Aqsa.

The Muslim Judicial Council SA plays host to the Western Cape Religious Leaders Forum’s Consultative Conference.


Leaders of the various faith communities convened at the WCRLF’S Consultative Forum to discuss and reflect on the changing face of religion, the relationship between church and state as well as the societal issues which religious bodies are called on to address.

Moulana Abdul Khaliq Allie, Secretary General of the MJC served as one of the panelists at the conference and highlighted the critical societal issues which have to be addressed by the religious community.

The conference was reflective of the common purpose and goal of the WCRLF in light of the divisive portrayal of religion elsewhere in the world. The conference aimed to create a cohesive approach to socio-economic matters as well as aiming to increase the influence and enhance the contribution of the religious sector.

Also in attendance were Father John Oliver and Archbishop Dr Thabo Makgoba who serves as Chairperson of the WCRLF to name a few.



•    The WCRLF will be conducting their 1st AGM since their establishment on the 13th of July 2010


MJC delegation to meet with Egyptian and Saudi Arabian Ambassadors July 2010

An MJC delegation will be meeting the Egyptian and Saudi Arabian ambassadors in Pretoria on the 14th and 15th of July 2010. This meeting is an exercise in confirming diplomatic relationships between the respective countries and the MJC.


MJC Elects 5 recipients for Al Azhar Institute sponsorships


Following a request to the Muslim Judicial Council(MJC) from the Al Azhar Institute to select suitably qualified students from the South African Muslim community for a scholarship to study in Egypt, Cairo, the MJC has concluded the screening and selection process of the 5 lucky candidates.
These scholarships allow the students entrance into the Al Azhar Institute with tuition fees paid in full.  Though each student will be given a stipend of R350.00/month it does not include accommodation, food and transport.
