The Muslim Judicial Council hereby notifies the Ulama and their respective constituency that the matter of the Muslim Personal Law is treated with utmost importance and earnestness and is discussed at all levels in the MJC structures. We hope to place in perspective the MJC’s involvement and commitment to the process in the legislation of the MPL for the past few months.

The 10th International Qira-ah Competition, Moscow Russia.


The Russian Mufti’s Council, based in Moscow, Russia hosted their Tenth International Quran Qira-ah Competition on the 20th and the 21st of June 2009.

The Muslim Judicial Council’s Dept. of Quranic Affairs for the first time received an invitation to attend the auspicious event and as a result nominated Hafith Hussain Dalvi, a well known local Qari to represent South Africa at the annual event.

Masaajid Commiittee Meeting PDF  | Print |  E-mail

Motivated by a serious concern about the lack of a closer working relationship between the Muslim Judicial Council with Masajid in the greater Cape Town area in addressing the common challenges facing the Muslim community, the MJC convened a special meeting on Friday 6 August 2010 (co-inciding with 24 Shabaan 1432), with Imaams and Mosque Committees at the Masjidus Salaam, in St Athans Road, Athlone. The meeting was well attended by about 30 mosques and conducted in a spirit of goodwill and co-operation.

Fitra Fidyah Ramadaan 1431 / 2010 PDF  | Print |  E-mail

The Fatwa Committee of the MJC has deliberated and investigated the FITRA and FIDYAH amounts for the coming Ramadaan and together with the Imaarah (senior council) of the MJC have finalized the Fitra and Fidyah amounts.

As is known we normally calculate our amounts according to the prices of rice which is the staple food of Cape Muslims. That refers to an average type of rice, not necessarily the best type available.

Hence we inform you that for Ramadaan this year the amounts of fitra and fidyah will be as follows:

Fitra: R26.00 (twenty six rand)

Fidyah: R13.00 (thirteen rand)
