On his return from Gaza Moulana Ighsaan Hendricks, who led the South African delegation in the International Humanitarian Convoy “Miles for Smiles” delivered successful programs in Paarl and as well as at Parkwood Mosque. Moulana Ighsaan gave an account of the devastating conditions in Gaza witnessed by the convoy.

The Muslim Judicial Council held its second successful Ramadan Outreach Program in CAFDA. The program was well attended and the MJC wishes to extend its appreciation to the Masjid committee, the Imaam, and community. The MJC also wishes to acknowledge all those who generously donated to the program.

When ordinary people do justice, leaders will follow
International humanitarian groups led by Interpal, successfully delivered 47 vehicles loaded with food, aid and medicines on the 9th August 2010 to the suffering people of Gaza. The people of Gaza welcomed the Aid Convoy with tears of gratitude and appreciation. South Africa was represented by a deligation lead by Moulana Ihsaan Hendricks, President of the Muslim Judicial Council (SA) and National Director of the Al-Quds Foundation (SA).

In a joint initiative, the Darul Ihsan Centre of Durban and the Muslim Judicial Council (SA) in the Cape, have made Iftaar provisions for a hundred families, all foreigners with refugee status, in surrounding areas of Athlone, Gatesville, Belgravia, Maitland, Phillipi and Nyanga.
Due to rising costs and a doubling of unemployment the Muslim Refugees Association of South Africa, a NPO representing different countries, is coordinating the 2010 Iftaar Cape Town programme.

Muslim Judicial Council Pakistan Floods Appeal
Monsoon rains sweep across Pakistan each year, but since 21 July the rains have been stronger and more intense than usual, causing the worst floods for 80 years.The extent of the damage is severe, and the floods have taken lives and destroyed communities - demolishing entire villages, roads and bridges and ruining fields and crops and killing livestock. The current death toll is reported to be 1,313, but this looks set to rise. In an addition to this thousands have been injured and 722,000 people have been displaced from their homes

Muslim Judicial Council SA executive members showed their solidarity and support for public servants who took to the streets on Tuesday 10 August 2010 to protest government’s revised offer of a seven percent wage increase and housing allowance of R630. Public servants are demanding an 8.6 percent increase in wages and a R1,000 housing allowance. Various unions under the banner of Cosatu and the Public Servants Association marched to Parliament to hand over a memorandum highlighting their demands.
MJC Secretary General Moulana Abdul Khaliq Allie, Shaykh Ebrahim Gabriels and Moulana Bienjamien Osman represented the MJC and addressed the march. |
