2 March 2016
The Muslim Judicial Council (SA), (MJCSA) is pleased to announce that through a project established between the MJCSA and the Mayor of Cape Town, Patricia De Lille on the 2 August 2014 in order to facilitate the acquisition of land and premises for religious instruction and education, six premises have been signed off for lease and 49 land applications are being processed.
Historically, according to our records, it is the first time that leases between the CofCT and Islamic Religious, education and welfare organization NGO’s are being granted in order to give support to NGO’s via the leasing of premises owned by the City of Cape Town.
We thank the Mayor, the City Manager Mr Achmat Ebrahim, Director of Property Management, Ruby Gelderbloem, Project Manager for Special Project, Rashard Davidsand the support team for their commitment and dedication towards the success of the project.
The project which is headed by the MJC’s, 1st Deputy President, Shaykh Riad Fataar has yielded six signed (3 year leases)to leading organizations of the Muslim community amongst them Hifth schools, cultural/religious institutes and education/sport institutes with seven more applications in the system for additional signing of leases.
This project is highly appreciated by the MJCSA and the recipients who emanate from a sector of South African society who were historically doubly oppressed and deprived because of the racist core of the apartheid regime and in addition because the religion of Islam was not given equal status nor support as a religion of the state.
We wish all those who benefitted from the project well with their endeavours and continued success towards enriching our community with beneficial education and the establishment of exemplary character. Ameen.
Shaykh Riad Fataar
1ST Deputy President
