MJC EXTENDS CONGRATULATIONS TO THE NATION AND THE IEC ON THE PEACEFUL AND SUCCESSFUL ELECTION PROCESS
8 August 2016 / 04 Dhul Qádah 1437H
The Muslim Judicial Council (SA) extends its heartfelt congratulations and appreciation to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), and all South African citizens who contributed towards a peaceful election process during the 2016 Municipal Elections.
The success of the process can be attributed to good co-ordination, encouragement and co-operation by voters and the IEC officials which was evident on the day.
We thank all accredited election observers who represented the MJC (SA), as well as all organizations who were given observer status towards ensuring that the elections were done freely and fairly, without prejudice or intimidation. This noble mission by religious leaders as visible and recognised representatives of their denominations who officiated on the day, affirms the moral authority of religious groups in South Africa. Being part of a recognized group, the MJC (SA)’s presence brought about a sense of pride and recognition to Muslims during the voting period.
We pray that the results of the electoral process will strengthen our democratic structures in service of the community by ensuring (i) economic equality, (ii) access to quality education, (iii) increased human settlements, (iv) improved health care, (v) efficient safety and security, and (vi) efficient mechanisms that are geared towards stimulating employment opportunities.
We remind those who have been elected as leaders of the nation: “Your nomination means that you have been charged with the responsibility of providing quality service to the people.”
Democracy starts after we have cast our vote!
