MJC ATTENDS POST-COUP UNIW CONFERENCE IN TURKEY

The Muslim Judicial Council (SA), as a member of the Union of NGO’s of the Islamic World (UNIW) was invited to attend an international post-coup conference in Turkey on the 16 August 2016. The MJC was represented by the 1st Deputy President Maulana Abdul Khaliq Allie.

The purpose of the conference was to provide UNIW members with first-hand information on the attempted coup against the Turkish government and its leader and to caution and inform the Muslim global community about the dangers Fethullah Gulen movement.

The conference was attended by representatives from 42 countries who conveyed a message of support from their respective countries, their Presidents, Ministers and religious leaders to the President of Turkey, Mr Recep Tayyib Erdogan.  A strong message conveyed to Turkey was that the members would a) support the masses in Turkey, b) condemn the coup, c) perpetrators of the coup to be charged; d) that an international compliant system of arrest be adhered to.

President RecepTayyib Erdogan shared information about the existent Gulen movements in many countries, with South Africa being one of them. He also informed delegates that whilst the attempted coup was well planned by the Gulenists’, they did not take into account the loyalty of the Turkish people towards the President.

The UNIW which was established to ensure sustainable progress, unity, and coordination among the non-governmental organizations of the Islamic world pledged its full support to Turkey and its leader.
