The Muslim Judicial Council (SA) and the Hayrat Vakfi Foundation (Turkey), will embark on a joint Eidul Adha 2016/1437 Qurbani Project where 30 cows will be slaughtered and distributed to the needy across the Western Cape. This is the 2nd joint Qurbaan program between the two organizations who are both members of the Union of NGO’s of the Islamic World (UNIW) based in Turkey.
The seven man delegation representing the Hayrat Vakfi Foundation is led Mr. Yusuf Kara who has been tasked with ensuring that the process runs smoothly in South Africa.
International Relations
The Qurbani project comes as a result of good working relations between the two organizations. In 2012 the Hayrat Vakfi Foundation were hosted by the MJC where various institutions of learning were visited in an attempt for them to understand the challenges faced by our local institutions. The 2015 Qurbani project saw 50 Bulls slaughtered and the meat distributed amongst the poor of our communities. 30 Bulls were slaughtered in Paarl and 20 more in Macassar during the festive days of Eidul Adha in Sandvlei.
Funding & Support
The Qurbani project was funded by the Hayrat Vakfi Foundation which sources funding via donations from the Turkish community in Turkey. The MJC partnered with various community based organizations and Mosques to ensure that the meat reached the areas in the community that needed it most. This year 30 bulls will be slaughtered by the Foundation over the three days of Eid Al Adha. The delegation will also be visiting various Schools and Masaajid to speak about their activities and the vision of their founder Bediuzzaman Said Nursi (RA).
