The Muslim Judicial Council (SA) in the strongest terms condemns the recent attacks on churches in Sri Lanka. Recent reports estimates the death toll to be in the region of 290 churchgoers and approximately 500 injured.
In a climate of religious intolerance and a disregard for human life, it’s the responsibility of God-fearing communities to rise and become the overwhelming voice of peaceful coexistence and tolerance.
The MJC wishes to express it’s sincere condolences to the families affected by this tragedy and well-wishes to those injured. We also call upon conflicting factions in Sri Lanka to respect human life and to seek alternative and more meaningful ways of resolving their conflict.
Furthermore, we call upon the Sri Lankan community to unite and support all legal efforts to bring the perpetrators of these heinous acts of violence to justice.
We share our well wishes to all our fellow Christian communities and all denominations and collectively we pray for harmonious coexistence.
