The Muslim Judicial Council (MJC SA) Executive Committee met with Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs of Malaysia, Mr Dato’ Saifuddin bin Abdullah and his delegation, at the MJC offices in Athlone on Tuesday 27 August 2019.

The purpose of the meeting was to advance mutual interest to stimulate and promote bilateral trade of Halaal Products.

“Upon mentioning our trip to South Africa to Mr. Anwar Ebrahim, former Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, he indicated that I should convey his Salaams to the leadership of the Muslim Judicial Council, and he narrated the long and cordial relationship which he has always had with the MJC,” stated Minister Saifuddin bin Abdullah.

These warm sentiments were echoed by the President of the MJC, Sheikh Irafaan Abrahams who stated that “Our shared history and cultural heritage enables a space for greater collaboration, and we look forward to the opportunities which are unfolding for our two countries,”

A key point of interest for both delegations centred on how the Halaal Industry in both South Africa and Malaysia can be optimized to advance the trade of Halaal products between the two countries.

As such, the Malaysian Delegations also met with Wesgro, Gift of the Givers, and the Department of Trade and Industry, to strengthen relations with South Africa generally and the Western Cape specifically.

The MJC EXCO also expressed a desire to further engage, so as to identify and promote the Halaal Industry locally and explore opportunities to facilitate greater bilateral trade with Malaysia.
