SHARE THE CARE PROJECT REACHES OUT TO GUGULETHU & KHAYELITSHA COMMUNITIES
Awqaf SA, the Muslim Judicial Council, MealSA and the SANDF Chaplaincy distributes over 1, 000 Maize Meal and Samp hampers to commemorate Woman’s Day.
AWQAF SA’s Share the Care project, in partnership with MEALSA, the Muslim Judicial Council and the SA National Defence Force Chaplaincy, is set to distribute over 1, 000 5kg maize meal bags donated by MealSA and 1 kg samp and beans hampers to communities in Khayelitsha Saturday 14 August as part of a relief effort to mothers who have fallen on hard times due to the debilitating effects of the high levels of unemployment, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The relief will be distributed in partnership with the SANDF Chaplaincy represented by Chaplain Mzamo Diba, as part of a national outreach programme designed to alleviate some of the suffering in economically stressed communities across the country during Covid and beyond.
“In the light of our current scenario where Covid is still rampant, peaking and shutting down the local economy, we feel it is an imperative that we reach out to others less fortunate than us. We cannot afford to shut off our fellow South Africans from care and compassion,” said Awqaf SA deputy CEO, Mickaeel Collier.
Mohamed Mohamedy CEO of the MealSA campaign said that it was necessary for civil society formations to band together to ensure that communities across SA have food, water, and sanitation to ensure human dignity.
“Millions of South Africans go to bed each night on empty stomachs. This cannot be the case. It is our responsibility to alleviate this tragedy.”
Maulana Abdul Khaliq Allie, deputy president of the MJC, said that all community organisations had to pull together to serve the poor, which was the divine responsibility of all faiths. “Eradication of poverty is the way to peace,” said Allie in supporting the campaign.
The Share the Care project is an initiative of Awqaf SA, an internationally recognized Community Endowment organization Awqaf SA is an Islamic charity that uses a model of sustainability based on a core investment that cannot be sold or ceded. The investment’s profits are used to finance projects from education to publishing, to schools, small businesses and infrastructure.

During this month of Muharram, let us observe general spending in charity but more so upon our families.
