The Muslim Judicial Council (SA) is deeply saddened by the passing-on of one of the most influential and renowned scholars of our time, Shaykh Yusuf al-Qaradawi (RA). Shaykh al-Qaradawi who was based in Qatar, passed-on to the Mercy of Almighty Allah on Monday, 26 September 2022 at the age of 96 years.
Shaykh al-Qaradawi (RA) published more than 120 books, the most well-known being ‘The Lawful and the Prohibited in Islam’. Many a student and scholar have indeed benefited from the Shaykh’s knowledge who without a doubt he leaves behind a strong legacy of the pursuit of knowledge and literary excellence. Shaykh al-Qaradawi was also the founder and former Head of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, an organization based in Qatar that brought together a vast number of Muslim scholars from across the world which included the former president of the MJC(SA), Moulana Ihsaan Hendricks (RA).
The Muslim community of South Africa was indeed honoured to host Shaykh al-Qaradawi (RA) in 2010. His programs in Cape Town and South Africa in general were very well attended and it afforded our students and scholars a rare opportunity to engage the Shaykh.
