MJC (SA) calls on the International Community to intervene in Syria
Unarmed civilians were once again casulties in a gruesome chemical weapons attack in Syria over the weekend. The Syrian government and its ally Russia have denied responsibility for the attack.
However, this is not the first time the Syrian government used chemical weapons on its citizens. A year ago, another chemical attack in the northern Syrian town of Khan Shaykhun killed dozens of people. Yet, despite the condemnation and many calls for the perpetrators to be tried for Human Rights Violations, the International community continues to turn a blind eye by failing to uphold the prohibition against chemical weapons attacks.
The Syrian Government MUST be held accountable for the massacre of innocent children, mothers and fathers. Failure of the international community to act on this abhorrent form of warfare allows other despots and regimes to continue unabated.
